MATLAB: Does the MATLAB installer splash screen hang, but I’m able to continue the installation

When I run the MATLAB installer the splash screen stays stuck in the middle of my screen, but I can continue the installer. When the installation finishes, the splash screen closes on its own.

This issue seems to be related to a Java conflict. To resolve the issue, you can use the -javadir command to use your locally installed version of Java instead of the one packaged with the MATLAB installer.
