Why does the MATLAB installer hang on “Verifying” when installing on a MAC?

The downloaded installer .dmg may be corrupt or incomplete. It is recommended to try running the installation again using a newly downloaded installer. You can download a new copy of the installer using the following link:
https://www.mathworks.com/downloads/
If the issue continues even after using the new installer, please follow the instructions listed below:
  1. From the Finder in Mac OS X, hit Command + Shift + G and enter the following path:\n
    /System/Library/CoreServices/
  2. Locate the app named “Installer.app” from this directory and launch it.
  3. Once launched and completed, navigate back to the location where your failing installer .dmg is located and launch it again. 
The installer should proceed normally at this point.
