Why do I get a Unable to Checkout license . No license for product(-1) when activating Road Runner?

This error is generated by pre-Mathworks versions of RoadRunner after selecting a MathWorks license during activation.
If you are receiving this error, verify that you are running the Mathworks version of RoadRunner, downloaded and installed from the MathWorks website. The pre-Mathworks versions of RoadRunner will not run with Mathworks licenses and should be uninstalled.
Pre-Mathworks versions may be identified from their Activation screen as they will give three options for Activation: Activation Key, License Server and License File. Mathworks RoadRunner should only give one option: the license file.
