MATLAB: Does the R14 Installer show up as a blank dialog window on the Windows XP machine

MATLAB

When running setup.exe, the installer's splash screen comes up, but the next dialog window is blank except for the Title Bar, which has the words "Welcome to the MathWorks Installer". When clicking the "X" button to exit the installer, another dialog window pops up and it is also blank. To exit this window, you must guess as to where the "Yes" button is located and click it.

This error is generally an incompatibility issue between a graphics driver and Java. To resolve this issue, you may do one of the following:
1) Update your video card drivers. You can do this by using Microsoft's Windows Update utility or download the drivers directly from the card manufacturer's website. Once you are using the updated drivers, try running the installer again.
2) Disable hardware acceleration of your graphics device. To do so, go to your Control Panel to Display. Go to the Settings tab and click on the Advanced button. Go to the Troubleshoot tab and move the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to None. Press OK twice to apply and then try the installer again. If the installer is successful, you can revert the Hardware Acceleration to the normal settings.
3) Use Safe mode. Running the installer in Safe Mode on your machine will completely bypass any graphics hardware drivers. Refer to Microsoft's website for instructions using Safe Mode for Windows XP.
