This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 2 (R14SP2). For previous releases, please read below for any possible workarounds:

We have verified that there is a bug in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) in the way that MATLAB handles printing from the Command Window to some printers. This bug has been fixed in MATLAB 7.0.1 (R14SP1).

If you are using a previous version, you may copy and paste the area of the command window that you would like to print on another editor such as the MATLAB Editor, Microsoft Word, Notepad, etc.

There is a bug in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) and 7.0.1 (R14SP1) in the way that the Command Window prints.

To work around this issue, add the CLC command to your startup.m file, by performing these steps:

1. Execute the following code at the MATLAB command prompt to determine if startup.m exists and open/ add startup.m:

      edit startup
elseif exist('startup')==0
      a = which('matlabrc');
      parts = fileparts(a);
      edit([parts, '\startup'])
end

2. After the last line of code, add:

clc

3. Save startup.m

4. Close and restart MATLAB

This will clear the Command Window during startup.

The problem originates from having a registered printer with an incompatible driver. The incompatibility is between the printer driver and Java. If a printer driver for an additional registered printer is incorrect, users may not be able to print even if the default printer driver is correct. To work around this issue, do the following:

1. Make sure that all registered printers have up-to-date drivers. If this does not solve the problem, it should be possible to unregister the printers individually and determine which one is causing the failure. If you leave that printer unregistered, it should then be possible to print to a different printer.

2. Try deleting and then reinstalling all printers. This process may update all the drivers and solve the issue.

3. An alternate workaround would be to copy and paste into another text editor to print.
