Why does MATLAB 7.0 (R14) error while logging out of the MAC OS 10.3 machine?

If MATLAB is running when I try to log out from MAC OSX, MATLAB quits appropriately but then an error message says:

 Matlab canceled logout

This has been verified as a bug in MATLAB 7.0 (R14) in the way that the MAC machine handles MATLAB during the "Logging out" phase.

Currently, to workaround this issue, exit MATLAB before logging off the MAC machine.

This error message indicates that during a restore on the machine, the cache was built with a different operating system's library (upgrading from one operating system to a newer one)

To work around this issue, launch a terminal window, and run the following command:

sudo update_dyld_shared_cache -force

This should then allow you to restart the installation, and complete the process.

If you are receiving this error when installing into an existing MATLAB, you can also resolve this error by changing file permissions on the MATLAB directory. To do so:

1. Open Terminal from Applications/Utilities

2. Run the following command in Terminal:

sudo chmod -R 755 /Applications/$MATLABROOT

(where $MATLABROOT is the name of the MATLAB directory)

For example:

sudo chmod -R 755 /Applications/MATLAB_R2012a.app

3. Enter your normal user password when prompted.

Once complete, you should be able to install into that MATLAB folder.

This enhancement has been made for Release 14 (R14). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:

To use MATLAB 6.5.1 (R13SP1) on Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) with Apple's X11, you must run a patch. The download and installation instructions are listed below. MATLAB 6.5.1 (R13SP1) does not run properly on X11 unless this patch has been applied. Instructions for downloading this patch are listed below.

NOTE:

Mac OS 10.3 users must use X11 for Mac OS X, which is included in the Mac OS upgrade.

To install X11 for Mac OS X, you must select Custom Install during the Mac OS upgrade process. You can install X11 for Mac OS X over XDarwin, but if you prefer to remove XDarwin and OroborOSX from your system, see Removing (Uninstalling) a MATLAB Installation in Installation Guide for Mac OS X.
