[Tex/LaTex] How to install a .sty file on Texmaker

I'm quite new to LaTeX, so please take that in consideration when answering my question. Thank you.

So I want to install ans.sty, but I'm not quite sure how to do so. I'm using TexMaker and I've tried usepackage, but appearantly that doesn't work. From what I read here, I need to manually install it, but I've been unable to do so. It seems I need to find a texfm directory on my Windows, but I coudn't find it.

You should install ans.sty in your local TeXMF root, say TeXMFLocal\tex\latex\ans and the documentation in TeXMFLocal\doc\latex\ans. If you're under MiKTEX, you also should create the local root, with MiKTeX Settings, Roots tab, and refreshh the FNDB (File Names Data Base).

mdwtools is not a single sty but a bundle of packages. To trigger the automatic on-the-fly installation you would have to use one of this packages in your document e.g. \usepackage{mdwtab}.

You installed the package in user mode so it should now be in one of the miktex trees in your user profile. Probably in the one called UserConfig or UserInstall. Look up the path in miktex settings (user mode).

It could be that the mpm command didn't update the FNDB so run either initexmf -u on the command line, or use miktex settings (user mode).

Have you tried this in a terminal?

$ sudo apt-cache search texlive french
 texlive-doc-fr - TeX Live: French documentation
 texlive-lang-french - TeX Live: French

$sudo apt-get install texlive-lang-french

This example should work in a well installed TeX Live:
