MATLAB: Why are MATLAB build-in functions suddenly undefined?

hello, suddenly, i did ot changed anything, some MATLAB build in functions (in my case "colormap" and "ylim") does not work anymore…. the .m-files are still in place and the path is set correctly.

any ideas??

Try typing these in your Command Window:

restoredefaultpath 
rehash toolboxcache

If those don’t work to give you access to the built-in functions, contact MathWorks Tech Support.

Could you try starting a new MATLAB and just enter the following code:

>> A = ones(3);
>> G = graph(A);

If this gives the error message you mentioned, could you again run the following lines on command line?

>> T = table(nonzeros(tril(A)), 'VariableNames', {'Weight'})
>> istable(T)
>> class(T)

MATLAB: Error message – plot function

plot is a built-in MATLAB function. You should be having another function in your workspace with the same name, which is shadowing the built-in plot function.

Execute the following command in MATLAB command window

 which -all plot

If you see the last line similar to the one shown below, then your built-in plot function is shadowed

built-in (C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2017b\toolbox\matlab\graph2d\plot)           % Shadowed

Go to the first line of the output, it shows the local function or variable named as 'plot' which is shadowing the built-in.

Clear the variable or delete the shadowing file and this should resolve the issue
