MATLAB: Ttest2 negative value

Hi all,

I would like to test if the mean of vector X is lesser or greater or equal to the mean of a vector Y using the statistical hypothesis Student Test with the function ttest2(). I have read in an article that the function "ttest2" can return -1 if mean(X)<mean(Y), or 0 if (mean(X)==mean(Y)) or 1 if(mean(X)>mean(Y)). However, I didn't find how to do this with ttest2 since in the official documentation, there's no negative result.

Any help please ?

It would help to know what MATLAB version (release) you are using. I am not aware that option ever existed.

If you want to specifically test that the first mean is different from, greater than, or less than the second mean, use the 'Tail' (link) name-value pair argument.

The paired t-test says nothing about correlation. (The 'unequal' flag is about the variances.)

Consider:

t = linspace(0, 10*pi);
v1 = sin(t);
v2 = 2*rand(size(t))-1;
[h,p] = ttest2(v1, v2)
h =
     0
p =
     0.6819

It does indicate if the means are different (rejecting the null hypothesis) at a specific significance.
