MATLAB: Report Generator – Prevent Table from Breaking onto Multiple Pages

Is there a way to automatically detect with the report generator when a table will not fit on page and insert a page break so that the table can start on the next page?

Since this only applies to docx reports, this can be done by defining a table style and then applying it when necessary.

Attached in the *.zip file is a word document with this custom table style.

Hello Tong,

You can update the RowSep, ColSep styles of TableEntry using the style property to remove the TableEntry borders.

 table.entry(1,2).Style = [table.entry(1,2).Style {mlreportgen.dom.ColSep('none'), mlreportgen.dom.RowSep('none')}];

Below is the sample code on using the RowSep, ColSep for particular table entry

table.Border = 'Solid';
% append the ColSep and RowSep styles to the existing TableEntry styles.

On the other hand RowSpan and ColSpan properties are used to span the TableEntry to multiple rows/columns.

There are multiple ways to fit a large table in a A4 size paper.

1) You can set the report layout to be landscape and then add the FormalTable to the report

For example:

rpt = Report('Title','pdf');
rpt.Layout.Landscape = true;
tb = FormalTable();
tb.RowSep = 'Solid';
tb.ColSep = 'Solid';
tb.Border = 'Solid';
add(rpt, tb);

2) Starting from R2018b we inroduced a new utility called as TableSlicer, which slices the input table into multiple chunks and add each chunk to the report. You can specify max number of columns in each chunk and also specify the number of columns to retain in each slice.

tb = mlreportgen.dom.FormalTable(magic(25));
tb.RowSep = 'Solid';
tb.ColSep = 'Solid';

Regarding reducing the font size of the table entries in a FormalTable, you can specify font size in table entries style property of the formal table

tb.TableEntriesStyle = {mlreportgen.dom.FontSize('20pt')}
