MATLAB: Please, I would like to present the xlimit in a plot into scientific notation

Hi all,

Please, I have a graph that has axis limit in the range of 0,1000, 2000 ,……..,15000. I would like to have it in scientific notation in the form 0, 1, 2, 3, ….., 15 *10^3.

Please, how can I do that.

ax=gca;
ax.XAxis.Exponent=3;

You can format the tick labels using the TickLabelFormat property of the axis. For example:

ax = axes('YScale','log');
plot(ax,1:10,logspace(3,6,10));
ax.YAxis.Exponent = 0;
ax.YAxis.TickLabelFormat = '%,.0f';

(edit) Taking a closer look at the answer you linked, what you need is the comma in the format.

I actually wrote a function to do some of that just for the fun of it yesterday.

engstr = @(x) [x*10.^(-3*floor(log10(abs(x))/3))  3*floor(log10(abs(x))/3)];
z = 1.6755e+05;
Result = engstr(z)
Result =
  167.5500    3.0000

The ‘engstr’ function produces a (1x2) vector, the first element is the engineering notation mantissa, and the second is the exponent. Just use the first element to get the result you want.
