MATLAB: Making a more user friendly simulink model

Hi all,

I am using a Simulink model to simulate various outputs based off a few constant inputs. As of right now, I am editing the variables that are saved in the model workspace via the model explorer. The variables are setting the initial conditions for SimScape block temperatures and used for comparators. I want to be able to edit these variables by changing the numbers in a block window the looks similar to the display blocks on the main page of the model. By main page I mean that I have created subsystems within my model that contain the blocks that will be using these parameters. I was wondering if this would be possible to implement. I don't need to change the variables during the simulation. They just need to be loaded in at the beginning. I would prefer to do this with out adding extra input signals into the subsystems.

Please explain how this could be done or alternative ways of making it more user friendly.

I found what I was looking for. It was simply a block called edit which allows direct access to edit any variable from any block in the model.

I don't know what y sub n and z sub n are. Normally I'd think they may be an array element like y(n) and z(n) - the n'th element of vectors y and z. However taking the min of a single array element doesn't make much sense so now I'm going to assume yn is a vector and zn is a vector, and znm1 is another vector, like (possibly) they're the n'th and (n-1)st columns of a 2D array or something. So in that case, the equation would be

Value = min(yn) – (min(yn)-min(ynm1)) .* (Zn – 1.6) ./ (Zn-Znm1);

Or, breaking it down to simplify it:

term1 = min(yn)-min(ynm1);
numerator = Zn – 1.6;
denominator = Zn-Znm1;
Value = min(yn) – term1 .* numerator ./ denominator;

Note, all vectors yn, ynm1, Zn, and Znm1 must be the same size and shape, like all 1-by-100 or whatever.

MATLAB: How to display the value of a block parameter in the model editor window

As described in the following procedure, you can use block annotations to display in the model editor window the value of a Lookup Table block's 'Look-up method' parameter:

1. In your model window, select a Lookup Table block.

2. From the model editor's "Edit" menu, select "Block Properties".

3. In the Block Properties dialog, select the "Block Annotation" tab.

4. In the 'Block property tokens' list, double-click the "%< LookUpMeth>" entry.

5. Click the "OK" button to apply your changes and close the Block Properties dialog.

Note that the block displays the value of its 'Look-up method' parameter below its name in the model editor window.

Similarly, you can display the values of other block parameters and add custom text using block annotations. See "Block Annotation Pane" in the Simulink User's Guide for more information.
