hi there, i have some problem with insert data to sql

if i use this coding

     insert(conn,'test',{'firstname','lastname'},{'linda','sara'})

then the data 'linda n sara' is successfully insert to mysql..

but when i try to call data from the gui which is i use this coding,

     insert(conn,'test',{'firstname','lastname'},{edit1.edit2})

edit1 and edit2 is my textbox in gui, the data cannot be insert to mysql

Is that a period between edit1 and edit2 or a comma?

When you get() the String property of the edit boxes, are you getting back something of class char or something of class cell ?

Matt Fig has a good set of example GUI in the MATLAB File Exchange.

Basically, if you want the user to be able to insert arbitrary text, you create an edit uicontrol, and when you want to insert it into the mysql database, you get() the 'String' property of the uicontrol. If you want the user to be able to insert arbitrary numbers, you do much the same, except after you get the String property you validate that it has numbers like you need and then you use a routine such as str2double() to convert the string into numeric values.

Mark - I suspect that your query could be more like

 sqlquery = ['select count(*) from db1 '...
             'where cname = ''' cname '''' ];

Note that since the name is a string, you should wrap it in quotes. For example, if cname were Mark, then the above SQL query would become

 sqlquery =
    select count(*) from db1 where cname = 'Mark'

Note that we use count to determine the number of records in the database that match on the name Mark. You could then execute this query as

 curs = exec(conn,sqlquery);
 curs = fetch(curs);
 curs.Data

where curs.Data would be an integer value that you would use to determine whether you should add the information to the database (if zero) or not (if non-zero).
