MATLAB: How tomport Matlab Figures

I would like to bring a *.fig into a script and perhaps do some additional things to it, as in adding a text statement. I have saved graphs as sampleName.fig and tried to use

import sampleName.fig

to get it on the screen to no avail. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

I assume you want the data distributed as evenly as possible? (Avoiding 5 figs with 6 cols, and 1 fig with 1 col)

num_cols_base = floor(num_cols / num_figs); % all figures have this minimum number of cols

num_fig_w_extra = mod(num_cols, num_figs) % this many figures will have 1 more data col

num_fig_w_base = num_figs - num_figs_w_extra % this many figures have the base number

total_cols = (num_figs_w_base * num_cols_base) + (num_figs_w_extra * (1 + num_cols_base)); % sanity check

A double for loop using figure, and hold on and hold off does the rest.

MATLAB: Only close specific figures

Are you able to just keep a vector of the figure handles (for A and B separately) as you create them, such that you can close the ones you want? For example,

>> handleA(1) = figure;
>> handleA(2) = figure;
>> % etc

>> handleB(1) = figure;
>> handleB(2) = figure;
>> % etc

Then, to close only A figures, you can do

>> close(handleA)

I guess I'm having trouble understanding your use case.

Also, regarding closing all figures, is there a reason you don't just use

>> close all
