MATLAB: How to get data from CSV file to Table

I have a CSV file and would like to use the data in MATLAB but I am unsure of how to do so. I would like to store the data in a table. How can I do this?

There are two ways to do this:

1) use the 'readtable' function:

2) In the "Home" tab -> Select "Import Data" button -> Select CSV file -> Output Type: "Table" -> Click "Import Selection" button

Both will yield a table in your workspace that you can use within MATLAB.

You can use 'setvaropts' to change the format of datetime variables. For example:

opts = detectImportOptions('example.csv');
opts = opts.setvaropts('myVariable','InputFormat','M/d/yyyy','DateTimeFormat','dd-MMM-yyyy');
t = readtable('example.csv',opts)
% 'example.csv' contains the column:
% myVariable

MATLAB: How to specify the column headers while reading in a CSV file using ‘readtable’

The 'VariableNamesLine' property can be used to specify this. Please refer to the example snippet below.

%Import the options of the csv file
opts=detectImportOptions('sample.csv');
%Defines the row location of channel variable name
opts.VariableNamesLine = 4;
%Specifies that the data is comma seperated

opts.Delimiter =','; %Specifies that the data is comma seperated
%Read the table
t = readtable('sample.csv',opts, 'ReadVariableNames', true);
