MATLAB: How to get clean and high resolution images for figures

I always save figures and graphs in form of JPEG, but it seems a bit foggy and its quality is not good enough to submit it for publication, what is the best option to get high quality images for figures and graphs in Matlab?

While it is true that a .jpg will not be what you want to achieve, there are better ways to save a file when your target is a high quality result.

Use imwrite.

All of the commands that you tried save the displayed figure data, which obviously limits the image resolution. All of your processing should occur purely in MATLAB memory: do NOT display the image in a figure and then expect to save whatever is shown as being the same resolution as your original data. The simplest solution is to process your image array, and save that array directly. Anything to do with figures is just a distraction.
