MATLAB: How to correct shading of an image

Hi there; i am new at image processing and specially in Matlab. in a homework our teacher asked us to correct shading of an image( like shading correction figure-2-29 of Image processing Book by Gonzales and Woods). but i didn't find any track to solve this problem in Google. I'll be glad of any help.

thanks for helpful link. i did it by dividing the main image with a shading pattern. without knowing how to get the shading pattern!!! is there a way to produce that shading pattern?

The fill command can do this. It requires some careful control of the ordering of the points and the ordering of the lines (hence the fliplr in the example below) ...

doc fill
x = 1:10;
y1 = 1:10;
y2 = 2:11;
h = fill([x, fliplr(x)], [y1, fliplr(y2)], 'r')

You can make it transparent with

set(h, 'FaceAlpha', 0.5)

MATLAB: Assigning color to gray image

I'd just use colormap and not mess with contours unless you know what you're doing and what you want. To pseudocolor a grayscale image an leave it as grayscale but display it as colored:

imshow(grayImage);
colormap(jet(256));
colorbar;

To convert a grayscale image into a true color RGB image and display the RGB image instead of the pseudocolored image:

rgbImage = ind2rgb(grayImage, jet(256));
imshow(rgbImage);

You don't use color bars with RGB images.
