MATLAB: Double-click zoom not resetting correctly

axesdouble clickguiimagescMATLABplot

I have a gui with an axes. In it a do an imagesc from selected data. When I load up the gui, the first image loaded to the axes acts normal. It can be zoomed and when you double-click, it resets to the correct x/y limits. But when I load another image, matlab seems to store the default max limits from the first image only so that double clicking resets the image to whatever the values were for the first image when it was first loaded. I've tries cla(gca), and cla(gca, reset), and reset(gca).
Does anyone have any idea to thoroughly reset the axes so that double click makes the entire image visible again?
