MATLAB: Does the printed/exported figure from MATLAB contain a large black rectangle

I am using MATLAB 6.5 (R13) on Mac OS X (10.2). I installed the beta version of Apple's X11 software. When I try to print or export my figures to files, the output contains black squares where the axes should be.

This bug has been fixed in Release 14 Service Pack 3 (R14SP3). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
Apple's X11 software was released after MATLAB 6.5 (R13), and we were therefore unable to test MATLAB with this prior to shipping. MATLAB is not supported with Apple's X11 software.
MATLAB 6.5 is only supported to run with the XDarwin and OroborOSX versions with which it is shipped.
