MATLAB: Does MATLAB fail to launch on the Solaris 8 machine with a fatal error about liblayout.so

Question

When I launch MATLAB, I receive the following error message:

 ls.so.1:  MATLAB fatal:  relocation error:file /usr/lib/liblayout.so:  symbol_LayoutObjectGetHandle:  referenced symbol not found 
 Killed

I receive the same error when launching with a -nojvm flag.

This error is caused when a machine has patch 109147-39 installed. To resolve this error, update to patch 109147-40 which obsoletes 109147-39. Once updated, MATLAB should launch as normal.
