This error has occurred due to an error with the MATLABLmgr script. In order to start your machine successfully you must boot into single-user mode and move the MATLABLmgr script so that it is not executed at boot time.
To get to single-user mode, hold down the command and "s" keys as the system boots. This will drop you into a command line interface before the system has fully started up.
First type:
Hit return.
Then type:
(PLEASE NOTE: There is a space between -uw and the '/' character)
Hit return.
Then type:
mv /Library/StartupItems/MATLABLmgr /Applications/MATLAB6p5
Hit return.
Then type:
The MATLABLmgr script has now moved to your /Applications/MATLAB6p5 directory and your machine will now continue the boot process (i.e. go to multi-user mode).
