MATLAB: Do I receive fatal errors regarding libmtsk.so.1 when running MATLAB R2007a on Solaris

When starting MATLAB R2007a on Solaris I get the following error:

/usr/local/mathworks/matlab_R2007a/bin/sol64/MATLAB: fatal: libmtsk.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory

Beginning in R2007a, MATLAB now employs some multitasking features. This error indicates that your system does not include the multitasking

libraries that MATLAB requires to run. To resolve this issue, you will need to patch up your system with the multitasking libraries.

Applying the following patches should resolve the issue:

For Solaris 8: 117557-04

For Solaris 9: 117560-06

For Solaris 10: 120753-05

The libstdc++ library shipped with Ubuntu 18.04 may be older and may not contain the required GLIBCXX version that MATLAB requires.

To resolve this issue you may upgrade the libstdc++ libraries by running the following command as they appear:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gcc-4.9
sudo apt-get upgrade libstdc++6

Use MATLAB's libraries by setting the environment variable:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/MATLAB/R2018b/sys/os/glnxa64

Then attempt to open MATLAB again.

It is possible that some Solaris patches can cause a segmentation fault within MATLAB.

For Solaris 8 ,the only current workaround is to remove the offending ld.so vulnerability patch (Patch ID: 109147-39).

Note: Some users have been able to resolve this problem in Solaris 8 by upgrading to Patch ID: 109147-40.

For Solaris 9, this error is resolved by installing the patch (Patch ID: 112963-23).

For Solaris 10, this error is resolved by installing the patch (Patch ID: 117461-08).

Note: If the patch above does not work for Solaris 10, the only current workaround is to remove the offending ld.so vulnerability patch (Patch ID: 117461-04)

For all patches, consult with Sun's Support to download and install the OS updates.
