MATLAB: Do I receive a FLEXnet error -29, “Cannot find ethernet device” when trying to start MATLAB

When starting MATLAB I receive the following error:

License checkout failed. Cannot find ethernet device. License Manager Error -29

This error can occur on a Mac OS X machine if there is no built-in ethernet device and you try to start the network license manager on the machine. In order for the license manager to work, there must be an Ethernet device on the machine and that Ethernet device must be labeled "en0."

MATLAB: Does FlexNET report the licensed products as “Uncounted, node-locked” instead of listing how many licenses are issued

If FlexNET reports the features to be "Uncounted, node-locked", it means that the license file in use is for a standalone license option, not a network license.

To check if a license file is for a network license, open the license file in a text editor. Before the INCREMENT lines, there should be a line that begins with a pound sign (#) and has "LicenseNo" and "HostID". Only network license files (Concurrent and Network Named User) have the "HostID" field on this line.

Standalone license files for R2008a and above are not intended to be used with the network license manager, and will only allow MATLAB to be used on the computer that the file was generated for. To obtain a network license file, please contact your license administrator.
