MATLAB: Can matlab save a structure to an excel file so that each individual field is saved to one excel sheet

Lets assume I have structure "struct" with fields: A, B, C and each field is a matlab table. I want to save this structure in one excel file so that each field is saved in one excel sheet like strucut.A is saved to sheet one, struct.B to sheet two and so on with the name of excel sheet being the name of that table. Becaue the number of fields are changing, I do NOT want to do this separately. I am seeking a way to do it all in once (to add the name of struct and matlab does the job).

for i = 1:n % n is the number of fields in structure
    writetable(s.(f{i}),'Example.xlsx','Sheet',i)
end

load the data into a variable (as the load documentation states, it is a structure):

Results_Struct = load('1102 XRAIL_Z_Values.mat');

You can then get the variable names using fieldnames:

Results_Names = fieldnames(Results_Struct);

As the help and that error message tell you, the input to xlswrite must be a numeric, logical or cell array. You can easily get a cell array from the structure using struct2cell:

Results_Cell = struct2cell(Results_Struct);

Assuming that load returned a scalar structure then Results_Cell will have size px1x1, where p is the number of fields in the structure (i.e. the number of variables in the .mat file). You must ensure that the contents of each cell is a scalar: if this is not the case then you will need to deal with this in whatever way appropriate to your data. You could optionally convert this data to a numeric matrix.

You now have everything you need to call xlswrite.

Note that load-ing into a structure and using fieldnames is more efficient and less buggy than load-ing straight into the workspace and using who or whos.

xlsfinfo will get you a list of sheet names into your Excel file.

[~,sheets] = xlsfinfo(filename);

Then you can use xlsread to read data from each specific sheet.

A more elegant way (that I suggest) is to learn how to use ActiveX to parse data from your Excel e.g.

filename = 'C:\SomeExcelFile.xls';
% Open Excel Automation server
Excel = actxserver('Excel.Application');
% Make Excel visible
Excel.Visible=1;
% Open Excel file
Workbook = Excel.Workbooks.Open(filename);
% Get the list of sheets in the workbook
Sheets = Excel.ActiveWorkbook.Sheets;
% Save the file
Workbook.Save();
% Quit Excel, remove the COM server and delete the related objects
Excel.Quit();
Excel.delete();
