MATLAB: A problem with setting fmincon options

I am doing optimization using fmincon, and while trying to set the objective limit to (1) using this command:

options = optimoptions('fmincon','ObjectiveLimit',1.0);

i get this error:

Error using optimfcnchk (line 99)
NONLCON must be a function.
Error in fmincon (line 427)
   confcn = optimfcnchk(NONLCON,'fmincon',length(varargin),funValCheck,flags.gradconst,false,true);

So, what could be casuing this problem? given that the function is working properly without setting that limit and the error is certainly caued by this above posted command.

I would guess that you entered your options object as the 9th input argument to fmincon when it really should be the 10th. If you have no nonlinear constraints, it should look like,

x = fmincon(fun,x0,A,b,Aeq,beq,lb,ub,[],options)

If you passed an options structure in to ga, then use

gaoptimset(TheOptionsStructure)

to see what the final options would have been.

If you did not pass an options structure to ga, then use

gaoptimset(@ga)

to see what the options used were.

PopulationSize is not dynamic: it is determined by the options passed in or defaulted to.

MATLAB: How to set global options

For a global variable to enter the scope of any given workspace you will have to call global var_name again. This will tell MATLAB to make that global variable accessible in that workspace. In you specific case try something like this:

global options
options = optimset('Display','off');
function 
...body...
global options
y = fsolve(......, options)
end

But I will still recommend that you pass options as an argument to that function and not use the global approach.
