[Tex/LaTex] What does the “Emergency stop” error mean
errorstex-core
Emergency stop, what does it mean? How to repair?
Best Answer
Most likely you tried \input{texstudio_hy2940} and that file does not exist and you are running in \batchmode so TeX can not stop and ask for a different file name.
Look in the log file for the full error message.
The TeXBook says:
Sometimes an error is so bad that TeX is forced to quit prematurely.
For example, if you are running in \batchmode or \nonstopmode, TeX
makes an "emergency stop" if it needs input from the terminal; this
happens when a necessary file cannot be opened, or when no \end
command was found in the input document.
The following hopefully answers your "abbreviated questions":
vim suggests inserting \@ before . in ...GRIP/ABP. So, do it! The reason here is that GRIP/ABP or any capitalized word before a period is usually an abbreviation. And, in some instances, abbreviations have periods, while some don't. To treat the end-of-abbreviation period as an end-of-sentence period, like it is in your case, use
Another possible protein blah blah blah from GRIP/ABP\@. Blah Blah Blah
Here is a visual of the effect if you don't use it:
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
Another possible protein blah blah blah from GRIP/ABP. Blah Blah Blah \par
Another possible protein blah blah blah from GRIP/ABP\@. Blah Blah Blah
\end{document}
Note the difference in spacing after the period. The latter constitutes a larger-than-usual end-of-sentence period.
vim is smart and suggests you use it, since it is good style to have proper puntuation.

The recursive nature of this non-art-like triptych reminds me of the acronym GNU.
because of the spurious space in \begin{pmatrix } and
! Undefined control sequence.
because \om is not defined.
It does only generates the error in the subject line if you ignore those errors and let TeX recover. Subsequent errors are nearly always spurious.
In this case \cr is the TeX primitive for a new line in an aligment which is used in the definition of \\. because the inner pmatrix did not start because of the first error, TeX takes the \\ as ending the outer alignment row inside the group, which is an error.
