[Tex/LaTex] Too long website as footnote results in `Overfull \hbox`

I have a very long website as footnote and I get a warning message Overfull \hbox.

This is the website:

\footnote{Vgl.: http://www.bmwi.de/DE/Themen/Energie/Energiedaten-und-analysen/Energiedaten/energiegewinnung-energieverbrauch.html}

If I insert allowbreak like below, I get another warning message Underfull \hbox

\footnote{Vgl.: http://www.bmwi.de/DE/Themen/Energie/Energiedaten-und-analysen/Energiedaten/\allowbreak energiegewinnung-energieverbrauch.html}

Can someone tell me which is the best way to handle this?

For long URLs use:

\usepackage[hyphens]{url}
...

\footnote{\raggedright Vgl.: \url{http://www.bmwi.de/DE/Themen/Energie/Energiedaten-und-analysen/Energiedaten/energiegewinnung-energieverbrauch.html}}

the problem is getting a number out of a reference; this is what the refcount package does.

so, with the package loaded, use

\footnotemark[\getrefnumber{Firstfootnote}]

or whatever.

if your aim is to have multiple references to the same footnote, the fixfoot package may help. this allows you to define fixed footnotes as a single command.

so: \DeclareFixedFootnote{\prooflater}{This theorem will be proved later} allows you to say \prooflater wherever you like, and the footnote text will only appear once per page.

[Tex/LaTex] Best practice for quoting a website

Since \url switches to a "verbatim" mode it can't go in the argument of another command. You can go over this limitation, in this particular case, with the following code

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{etoolbox,hyperref}

\newrobustcmd{\urlfootnote}[1]{%
  \expandafter\footnote\expandafter{\expandafter\url\expandafter{\detokenize{#1}}}}
\begin{document}
The Activity Lifecycle is blah
blah\cite[Lifecycle\urlfootnote{http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Activity.html#Fragments}]{Google2012}.
\end{document}

Note that # doesn't need to be escaped.
