[Tex/LaTex] Reducing File size

file size

I am using XeTeX+bibTeX to compile my LaTeX file. I have around 34 pages, which includes over 20 high Quality images (Large size which are rescaled) and I am using a5paper for the book document class. also I'm using figure, TiKz and lslisting. after compiling the document I now have a PDF of size 250MB !

could someone please give me a better compiling option (I'm using TeX Maker) or what to do to reduce size(best practices)?

I forgot to mention that when having the draft option the file size becomes 100MB

As a first shot you could rescale your images, so that you can include them without much scaling in the Latex document. The difference of 250 MB might be an indication that the images eat up a lot of space.

What format are the images?

You can find all options of ps2pdf here. The PDFsettings part is below:

-dPDFSETTINGS=configuration
    Presets the "distiller parameters" to one of four predefined settings:

        * /screen selects low-resolution output similar to the Acrobat Distiller "Screen Optimized" setting.
        * /ebook selects medium-resolution output similar to the Acrobat Distiller "eBook" setting.
        * /printer selects output similar to the Acrobat Distiller "Print Optimized" setting.
        * /prepress selects output similar to Acrobat Distiller "Prepress Optimized" setting.
        * /default selects output intended to be useful across a wide variety of uses, possibly at the expense of a larger output file.

So in principle /screen will give the smallest output. It's already enough for a projector.

A TeX compiler is not an image processing program. The image is just included in total. Trimming/clipping is applied via PDF (PostScript) operators without changing the image.

Load the image into an image processing program (gimp or many other), remove the unwanted parts there. Depending on the image, it could also be downscaled or exported in a different format such as JPEG (lossy). Then it also simplifies the including in LaTeX, because option trim or viewport with its coordinates are not needed any longer.
