[Tex/LaTex] Integrating external dictionaries with Texmaker
dictionariesspellingtexmaker
I'm a relatively new LaTeX user and I want to know:
Is there a way to link an external dictionary to LaTeX and
what dictionaries are recommended?

In the link of @Thorsten I couldn't find anything about Texmaker, and about particularities so:
In general, all you need is *.aff and *.dic file, you can download them from OpenOffice dictionary packages (archive contains these and some other files)
e.g. en_GB.aff and en_GB.dic placed in right directory does the trick.
Dictionaries of the languages that you will be using.
For Texmaker specifically, you go:
Options -> Configure Texmaker -> Spelling Dictionary
Maybe this should be a comment but I'm so far able to answer and not to comment.
Hunspell dictionaries (.dic and .aff) are more complex than just word lists (i.e. it contains information of possible affixes). Therefore, a proper entry cannot be generated from a single word.
The solution in TexStudio is to store additional words in an ignore word list (.ign) next to the dictionary. This list can be populated via Context Menu -> always ignore or via the Always Ingore button in the spell checking dialog.
Note: On Windows 7 the default dictionaries are in
C:\Program Files (x86)\TeXstudio\dictionaries\
Windows 7 prevents writing to the program files directory. It redirects the writes to User dictionaries, which are in
Do the dictionaries show up in the selection box "Default Dictionary" right below the setting where you specified your path? If not they are not loaded (probably because they are not valid).
The dictionaries are hunspell dictionaries consisting of two files: .dic and .aff. Both need to be present. If you use the dictionaries provided in .oxt files, you need to import them using the button in the options (or extract the .oxt files manually, which are just renamed zip files).
