[Tex/LaTex] Include thebibliography on the same page

My paper has a page limit and the spec says to include the bibliography on the same page right after the text. I'm using the thebibliography environment (its a very simple bibliography). How can I accomplish this?

In the article class the bibliography (either input directly as a thebibliography environment or prepared with the help of BibTeX or Biber) is considered as an unnumbered section, so there's no page break.

With the report class it is considered as a chapter, which makes sense, because the higher level of subdivision is precisely the chapter.

For a paper the article class is recommended. However one can obtain the same effect in report by following the method outlined in the answer Start new chapter on same page (although I find it disputable to have no break between the last chapter and the bibliography, because this would mean that the bibliography is relative to the last chapter only).

You should use \newpage or \clearpage instead of \pagebreak: the former commands have internal call to \vfill, which pushes footnotes to the bottom, while the latter command does not have it.

Since there is no connection between the overpic environment and \figcaption, they can get separated. Also, the center environment doesn't keep things together (in a box, that is), but merely acts as a switch to change the justification of whatever it contained within.

The following should result in the correct behaviour:

  \figcaption{I want this caption on the same page as the corresponding figure.}

It boxes the contents in a minipage of full width (\textwidth), centres the contents (\centering) and avoids a paragraph indent (\noindent) since it is set in horizontal mode (and is therefore considered a paragraph).

It does not, however, avoid overfull boxes from occurring if the contents of the minipage oversteps the text block boundaries.
