Is it possible somehow to drag and drop image files from a browser or files directly to LyX when creating a latex document? If not, is there any other editor for OS X that can do this? I find it really slow to add images to a latex document, or if you can tell me an easy approach. Thanks

You can use Insert -> File -> External Material, which wraps the pdfpages package. Documentation for pdfpages is available here.
Another way which might be more appropriate is to insert the .pdf file as if it were any other graphic (Insert -> Graphics...) and use the page=n option. These options are passed to the \includegraphics command, which is part of the graphicx package (which is documented here). A screen shot follows:

One partial method is using Close inset as sugggested in the comments of your question.
Here's an ad-hoc add-on: Edit the preferences in your boss' LyX installation to make the closed ERT insets invisible.
In particular, go to Tools > Preferences > Look & Feel > Colors and change the color of LaTeX text to be the same as background, and do the same for button background (for collapsed inset) and for the border of the closed inset (which I couldn't find fast).
This way, the ERT will be invisible, but not locked.
If your boss should happen to click on one of those now invisible fields, her frustration might wreck your code. Not optimal, but at least the code won't show :)

No. It is not possible to drag and drop image files directly into LyX. If you keep all of the graphics that you are going to be using in the document in a single subfolder, it is fairly quick to go through the insert graphics dialog since you don't need to search through multiple directories.
I do not use emacs, but apparently somebody has hacked together a way to automate the process of inserting images into LaTeX documents. This is discussed here: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/auctex/2010-12/msg00010.html.
