[Tex/LaTex] Add field to bibliography style

I have generated a style using latex makebst. It works perfectly, except that I want to add a 'collaboration' field to my entries, to be shown in parenthesis imediately after the authors. There wasn't an option to do that when building the file, how would I edit the .bst to get this effect?

Note: I am not using biblatex, I am using latex and bibtex.

There are two options: either use the note field, as it is a standard field. However, the note will not immediately follow the authors.

Since you are using makebst there is an even better option: when you are asked for "ADDITIONAL REVTeX DATA FIELDS:", answer with "r" (or manipulate the dbj file by hand). This triggers the switches revdata,eprint,url,url-blk. You get those REVTeX fields, including collaboration, and the content of the collaboration field will be printed after the authors, in parentheses.

I suggest you to revise your .bst file. For instance, change lines 1574--1575 into

and in your TeX file write

Also the definition of \enquote should be changed: lines 1572-1573 should be

Moreover, line 197 must be changed as

(that is, changing \uline into \bbluline).

Of course, line 527 should become

that is, removing also add.blank.

We use the string.length function from Tame the Beast, the or function should be contained in your bst file already. Then we define a simple search function that tests whether a string is contained in another string. Using this, we can test for "collaboration" and "Collaboration" in the collaboration field. Note that we do not need to test for the plural forms, as searching for the singular form will find those plurals, too.

As a final note I would advice against those hacks, and change the bib file instead. BibTeX is meant to just format the bibliography, not to alter the content. If you would like to use another style, or switch to biblatex, those inconsistent BibTeX entries come back to bite you, again.
