MATLAB: Does an error occur while starting MATLAB when installing a Support Package with install_su​pportsoftw​are.exe

When installing a Support Package directly via install_supportsoftware.exe launcher, I get an error message that says:

Support Software Installer Error

 Error occurred while starting MATLAB.

MATLAB then fails to start. The support package does not get installed.

The error appears to be related to multiple MATLAB versions installed on the computer and registry entries have become inconsistent.

Please uninstall the version of MATLAB you are receiving the error on and then re-install MATLAB.
