I have just downloaded and installed MATLAB. I expected a particular toolbox to also be installed, but it isn't showing up in 'ver'. Where can I see if that toolbox is included on my MATLAB license?

There are multiple reasons why a product may be missing from the Product Selection screen in the MATLAB installer:
- The product may not be available for your platform
- The product may not be available on your license for the current release of MATLAB due to a lapsed Software Maintenance Subscription
- You may be using the incorrect File Installation Key
- Incomplete download or missing/corrupt installation files.
1. The product may not be available for your platform.
Some toolboxes are only available for certain operating systems. For example, the Trading Toolbox is only available on Windows. When you run the MATLAB installer on a Mac or Linux system, you will not see the Trading Toolbox listed as an available product to install, even if it is available on your license. You can check which toolboxes are available for which operating systems at the following site:
http://www.mathworks.com/products/availability/

The product may not be available on your license for the current release of MATLAB due to a lapsed Software Maintenance Subscription
.
Only products that are currently covered under a Software Maintenance Service subscription will be available to install for the latest release. The product in question will only be available for the latest release that you received while it was covered under the Software Maintenance Subscription service. If you or your organization allowed the subscription to lapse for this toolbox, it may not be available to install for any release after the end date of the subscription for this product.
You can view the subscription status for each toolbox by logging into your MathWorks account at MathWorks.com and visiting the License Center. Select the license in the License Center, and look at the 'Product Details' tab in order to see the subscription status of each product on the license.

If you are performing an offline installation, you may be using an incorrect File Installation Key (FIK). Each FIK is specific to the license that it was created for. It is a series of numbers that represent which products are allowed to be installed for this license. If your FIK is out of date, or if you are using a FIK from a different license, you will not be presented with the correct list of products to install on the product selection screen.
To access the correct FIK for your license, you will need to log into your MathWorks account and activate for this license, or retrieve it from an existing activation. Follow the directions at the following support article:
Where can I find the Activation Key or File Installation Key (FIK) for my license?
4.
If you are installing MATLAB R2014a or newer:
- If you have selected the 'Log into a MathWorks account' option in the installer, and products are missing, then this is most likely due to the problems described in point 1. and 2. in this article. When you choose the 'Log into a MathWorks account' option, the installer will download the necessary installation files during the installation process.
- If you have selected 'Install with a File Installation Key', you must be using a MATLAB DVD to perform the installation, or you must obtain the MATLAB installation files from the administrator of your license, who may have used the 'Download Only' option in the installer in order to download the full installation package on a system that has internet access.
If you are installing MATLAB R2013b or older:
- If you are sure that your File Installation Key is correct, you may not have all of the necessary installation zip files for the product in question. Make sure that you have not unzipped any of the 'common' or architecture specific zip files.
To Install the Network License Manager, you must first activate and obtain the license file then install the license manager software using the MathWorks Installer or manually install using the license manager binaries.
The following instructions are for:
- Activating the network license and obtaining the license file
- Installing the license manager with the MathWorks Installer for R2020a and newer
- Installing the license manager with the MathWorks Installer for R2019b and older
- Manually installing the license manager using the binaries
- Installing MATLAB on client machines
- Controlling access to your MATLAB license
Activate the network license and obtain the license file (Required)
To install the network license manager, the license server must first be activated on the MathWorks website to obtain the license file. For R2019b or earlier, you will also require the File Installation Key.
To generate a license file and the File Installation Key:
- Open the license in the License Center
- Click the "Install and Activate" tab
- Click "Activate to Retrieve License File" (If you see "Activated Servers" instead, skip ahead.)
- Enter the release, operating system, host ID and activation label (What is my host ID?)
- Click "Download license file" or "Email license file"
- Copy the File Installation Key (For R2019b and earlier)
If you see a screen called "Activated Servers" when you click the "Install and Activate" tab then your server is already active. For information on updating you License Manager, please refer to the following article:
Once you obtain the license file, and the file installation key for R2019b and earlier, you may proceed to the following instructions for installing the license manager using the MathWorks Installer or installing the license manager manually using the license manager binaries,
(R2020a and later) Installing the license manager with the MathWorks installer
The license manager installer is part of the MATLAB installer. The MathWorks Installer can be downloaded here. Once you have the installer:
- Start the MATLAB installer.
- Click 'Advanced Options' at the top right.
- Select 'I want to install Network License Manager'
- Accept the terms of the Software License Agreement.
- When prompted for a license file, browse to the "license.lic" file that you downloaded from the MathWorks License Center.
- Select the destination folder
- To start the license manager to start at boot time, select "Configure the license manager as a service" (Windows only.)
- Click "Begin Install."
- Start the license manager
(R2019b and earlier) Installing the license manager with the MathWorks installer
As with the newer MathWorks Installer, the license manager is part of the Installer. The MathWorks Installer can be downloaded here. Once you have the installer:
- Start the MATLAB installer.
- Select "Use a File Installation Key"
- Accept the terms of the MATLAB Software License Agreement.
- Enter your File Installation Key.
- Confirm the installation path
- Select the "License Manager" from the list of products to install.
- Uncheck other products unless you also want to install the MATLAB client software on this machine. Use the checkbox at the top of the list to select or deselect all products.
- When prompted for a license file, browse to the "license.lic" file that you downloaded from the MathWorks License Center.
- To start the license manager to start at boot time, select "Configure the license manager as a service" (Windows only.)
- Click "Install."
- Start the license manager
Manually installing the license manager using the binaries
If you are serving multiple vendors from your FlexLM server, or you simply prefer to do things manually, the license manager can be updated without using the MATLAB installer. This is only recommended for experienced license administrators.
The license manager binaries can be downloaded here:License Manager Download
The license manager consists of four binaries:
- lmgrd, the core license manager binary
- mlm, the MATLAB vendor daemon
- lmutil, a suite of tools for administering the license manager
- lmtools.exe, a graphical frontend for the license manager. (Windows only.)
To install the license manager manually:
- Extract the downloaded folder and place the folder in the desired destination
- Place the license.lic into the /etc folder.
- Edit the license.lic to include the SERVER and DAEMON lines then rename it to license.dat
- Create a text file to use as the debug log (lmlog.txt)
- Start the license manager
For information on adding the SERVER and DAEMON lines, please refer to the following article:
NOTE: When installing the license manager manually on Windows, the network license manager service will not be configured in lmtools.exe automatically. You will need to configure the service manually .
Installing MATLAB on client machines
You will need a copy of the license.dat file to install MATLAB or other MathWorks products on client machines. This file is inside the license manager installation folder:
- Open the folder where the license manager is installed.
- Open the folder "etc."
- Create a copy of the file "license.dat." Do not remove the file from this directory.
For more information on installing MATLAB and other MathWorks products on client machines, please see the following article:
Controlling access to your MATLAB license
If you have a Network Named User license, or you would like to restrict access to products on your license, you will need to use an options file.
To create an options file, please see the instructions in the following article:
Contact us with any errors
If you receive any errors while updating the License Manager, please visit our support page or contact us with the license.dat, debug log (lmlog), and options file (if you have one) attached.
