MATLAB: What means “Licensed user” in 4.1.3 of addendum

designated computerlicenseMATLABremote desktopsimulink

Hi
I'm looking for the exact possibilities to use an individual license activated as type "designated computer" (commercial use). I read the license.txt, but one point is not 100% clear for me.
Designated computer: any user can sit at the computer and use the licensed programs (one user at any given time). This point is clear. But there is an additional possibility to use the "designated computer" with Remote Desktop. This is described in 4.1.3 of Installation and Use Addendum (part of license.txt):
"The Licensee of a Designated Computer Activation Type may designate one Licensed User to remotely access the Programs licensed on the Designated Computer for operation on that Designated Computer. Licensee may redesignate such Licensed User, whether temporarily or not, no more than four (4) times in any twelve (12) month period."
Does this means: the activation type is still "designated computer", so every user can sit to the computer and use the programs. Additionally we define one user which is allowed to connect by remote desktop to use the programs (if no other user is currently using them). So the special user could either sit at the computer like the others do OR connect by remote desktop?
So here the questions:
  • Really no change in activation type? (Or does this mean a change to "Standalone named user")
  • How do I define this special user which is allowed to use Remote Desktop?
  • Do I have to inform Mathworks about the special user? Or how could Mathworks check for the max 4 times change in 12 months?
  • Could I define a generic user like "mathuser" instead of JohnSmith as "Licensed User"?
Thank you very much for an answer! Roger

You should ask Mathworks Sales. The people who answer questions here are outside volunteers who have probably never spoken to the legal team.

No.
