MATLAB: Use packages to group the methods of the class

It's possible to group the methods of the classe like this:

    @Myclass
        Myclass.m
        +pkg1
            method11.m
        +pkg2
            method12.m
            method22.m
        othermethod.m

and use it with obj.pkg2.method12

according to Matlab documentation there is no packaging of methods introduced:

You may have a "private" folder containing methods with private access. All other methods have to be in class folder.

You can't do what you asked. If you could, you could relax the property setting validation to the point where your subClass instance wouldn't be a valid superClass instance.

You may be able to do what you want, however. Your superClass's property setter could call a normal instance method that subClass could overload. See the trustedSubclassSetterHelper methods in the attached superClass495080 and subClass495080. That helper doesn't actually set the property (otherwise you get into a loop) but merely provides the updated value. This means that the value would have to be something both superClass495080 (in set.prop1) and subClass495080 (in trustedSubclassSetterHelper) accept as a valid value.

>> Q = superClass495080
Q = 
  superClass495080 with properties:
    prop1: 'Hello!'
    prop2: 'My name is'
>> Q2 = subClass495080
Q2 = 
  subClass495080 with properties:
    prop3: 'Dom.'
    prop1: 'Hello World!'
    prop2: 'My name is'

Files in a subfolder of a class folder are not considered methods of the class.

Please refer to the following example:

@myClass > myClass.m:

classdef myClass
    methods
        function classObj = myClass()
            classObj.method1()
            classObj.method2()
        end
    end
end

@myClass > method1.m:

function method1(classObj)
    disp('method in class folder')
end

@myClass > subfolder > method2.m:

function method2(classObj)
    disp('method in subfolder')
end

-----

>> m = myClass
method in class folder

Unrecognized method, property or field 'method2' for class 'myClass'.

Error in myClass (line 5)

classobj.method2()

As you can see, 'method1' is part of the class, but 'method2', which is in a subfolder of '@myClass', is not treated as a method of the class.
