MATLAB: Am I unable to insert equations in MS Word when editing DocBlock in RTF

I have a DocBlock in my Simulink model and the format of the text is RTF. When I double-click the block, it brings up a MS Word editor. I would like to embed equations in the Word document, but I find that the 'Equation' item under 'Insert' in the MS Word toolstrip has been grayed out. I have numerous equations in Word documents that I'd like to paste in the DocBlock document. When I proceed to try and paste those equations in the DocBlock document, it gets pasted as an image and not an equation.

Moreover, I notice that the 'Insert Equation' option seems to be available when directly opening RTF files in MS Word, thus indicating that the limitation arises when opening MS Word through DocBlock.

I'd like to know how to insert equations into MS Word when editing a Docblock.

When using the DocBlock to create an RTF document, double-clicking on the DocBlock launches a blank MS Word document and forces MS Word to enter compatibility mode. In the compatibility mode, some features such as 'Insert Equation' are not supported. To overcome this limitation, please try the following:

1. Click on 'File' item on the MS Word toolstrip.

2. In the 'Info' tab, click on Compatibility Mode. In MS Office 2016 and later, the button is called 'Convert' and appears next to Compatibility Mode.

3. Once you do this, going back to the editor will make the Equation button active.

4. Add your equations.

5. When saving the document, save as 'RTF'.

Unfortunately, you cannot create reports with a custom footer using the Report Explorer.

However, it is possible to do this within the Report Generator API. The MATLAB function below generates an example report with a footer corresponding to a given test and run number. Note that the inputs 'r' and 't' are simply metadata that need to be logged, and 'h' is an array of figure handles. Also, note that you must generate and save the 'default' PDFXTX file from the MATLAB report generator for this function to run.

The method by which this function works is outlined below:

1. Import all functions from the package 'mlreportgen.dom'.

2. Open a PDF document for writing with the "Document" function.

3. Create the objects 'left', 'center', and 'right' that correspond to the text that will appear on each part of the footer. Specifically, 'left' is a 'Paragraph' object containing a single space (with is not visible), 'center' is a 'Paragraph' object containing the page number, and 'right' is a 'Paragraph' object containing the test and run number information.

4. Create a 'PDFPageFooter' object from the default template. Append both a 'HorizontalRule' object, and a 'Table' object which has the 'left', 'center', and 'right' objects as entries.

5. Create a 'PDFPageLayout' object, and append the footer to this object.

6. If it does not yet exist, create a directory for temporary image files.

7. Loop through the handle containing your figures. Save them to the 'tempimages' directory. Finally, create 'Image' objects and append these to the report.

8. Close the document 'd'.

MATLAB: Am I not able to use ‘findobj’ with ‘regexp’ when working with DOM objects

The DOM API does not support 'findobj' with 'regexp' searches or instance hierarchy searches.

An enhancement request for this has been forwarded to our development team so that they can consider adding this feature to a future release of MATLAB.

As a workaround, you can create a MATLAB program to perform these searches using the DOM object's 'Children' property to recursively descend a hierarchy of DOM objects, and the MATLAB 'regexp' function to match the DOM object's property values.
