MATLAB: Unable to assign the classIds since there are different number of elements on both sides

unable to assign

my error:Unable to perform assignment because the left and right sides have a different number of elements.

Error in tc14god>ReadOutexTxt (line 188) classIDs(i) = str2num(tline(index+5:end));

Error in tc14god (line 43) [trainIDs, trainClassIDs] = ReadOutexTxt(trainTxt);

I have attached my code with this. please help me to resolve the error. Thanks in advance

Your code does not protect against the possibility that the string you are converting is empty or has multiple numbers. str2num is essentially eval() of the string, able to return empty or a vector of values.

str2double on the other hand always returns a scalar even on empty inputń it returns nan if the input is not a scalar

The error is clear; when you try to save more number of elements in an array which initialized with less number.

Example:

A = zeros (1.10);
A (1) = rand;
A (2) = rand (1,2);  % this will throw error, you have to save only one element but you are saving two elements

In your case, check what is dimension of RHS created and what dimension LHS is initialized.

You cannot have columns of separate strings in any kind of matrix other than a cell array.

Strings are not single objects in MATLAB: they are arrays of characters, so whenever pos has more than one digit, you are trying to store the array with multiple positions in to a single location ABC(xy,1); as you have discovered, that fails.

Consider instead using

ABC{xy,1} = num2str(pos);
ABC{xy,2} = ['   ' stri strj];

Or alternately,

ABC(xy,:) = {num2str(pos), ['   ' stri strj]};
