MATLAB: The abbrevation of “Left side of equation” is “lhs”

Sometimes I am very confused about the name conventions of functions in matlab. Such as the lhs. The help website says that "lhs" is "Left side of equation". But where does the "h" come from?

Do not use the syntax

[] = SomeFunction()

as a call. If you do not want to return anything, then just leave out the assignment. For example just

AnimatedPlot(t,y,0.1);

I went with Matt Kindig's approach of making the symbolic equation completely left sided, this is a minimum example:

sumblocks = {'y = x1 + x2'}
sides = regexp(sumblocks, '=', 'split');
for i=1:size(sides,1)
    sumblocks{i} = sprintf('%s - (%s)', sides{i}{1}, sides{i}{2});
end

The output given in "sumblocks" will be a left-sided equation.
