MATLAB: Stem problem

Hi,

I would like to make a stem diagram where drop lines are horizontal and not vertical. Even better would be if ML is able to plot horizontal vectors from a baseline of y-axis.

Actually what I'm trying to plot is velocity profile in pipe. eg. http://www.flowmeterdirectory.com/images/flowmeter_artc_02031701_03.gif

Can anyone help me?

I suggest you to use quiver function:

y = 0:10;
u = 25-(y-5).^2;
quiver(0*y,y,u,0*u)

Of course you can do it with stem function:

x = 0:10;
y = 25-(x-5).^2;
stem(x,y)
view(90,90)

Hi,

two possibilities:

You remove the ticks: set(gca, 'ytick', []), but this way you would also see no grid lines.
Remove the labels: set(gca, 'yticklabel', [])

The ability to create a horizontal AREA plot is not available in MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b).

As a workaround, you can make a regular AREA plot, and then use the VIEW command to rotate the view of the axes. For example:

Y = [1, 5, 3; 3, 2, 7; 1, 5, 3; 2, 6, 1];
area(Y);
view(90,90)

Please note that if you do this and then try to use the XLABEL command, it will label the vertical axis. This is because the view has simply been rotated so that the x-axis is now aligned vertically.
