MATLAB: Standard deviation of peak values

Hi all

I have a sligth issue, concerning standard deviation of some peak values.

I have three curves (a, b and c) plus a mean curve

I am interested in the peak values, but need the standard deviation of these aswell. Etc. mean value peak = 168 +/- std. dev?

Any thoughts of how to do that? I am pretty new to matlab i have to say.

I am aware it is not the best, but i only have three samples, and my supervisor want some kind of statistics on them.

Hi Chris, for a matrix of data

x = randn(10,4);
mean(x)+2*std(x)
mean(x)-2*std(x)

gives the sample means of the columns plus/minus 2 times the standard deviation. The question is whether you really want the sample standard deviation here, or the standard error of the mean.

Using normfit to calcualte the standard deviation is taking the long way round, since you’re not asking for the other outputs it can give you.

Use this instead:

len = [10, 100, 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000];
for k1 = 1:length(len)
    standard_deviation(k1) = std(amp(1:len(k1), 50));
end
figure(1)
plot(len, standard_deviation)
grid
