MATLAB: Simulink & Real time Workshop (RTW)

I am going to simulate an MPSOC system with simulink and going to map it on a many-core target platfrom. Can I use Real Time Workshop for this purpose? Can I use my own developed code for mapping and scheduling? Which types of processors does RTW support(PowerPC, ARM, …)?

RTW is intended to generate ISO/ANSI C code, and as a result of that, it doesn't generate any special commands in the code for targeting multiple cores. It doesn't prevent you from doing this in any way, but it also doesn't generate anything extra for multiple cores either. There are a variety of techniques, such as S-functions, Custom Storage classes, and customizing your own "main" that would allow you to add extra code that may help do this.

Along similar lines, as long as you have an ISO/ANSI-compliant compiler, you should be able to use the generated code on any processor you like.

PSpice SLPS and Cadence Allegro AMS Simulator SLPS are third party products, and MathWorks does not test or guarantee their performance and behavior.

If the developers for the product have structured it in a way that code can be generated, then Real-Time Workshop or Real-Time Workshop Embedded Coder can be used to generate code from the blocks. As a bare minimum, the blocks should come with their TLC files which will tell RTW/RTW-EC how to generate code for them.

The exe file option was added for you to see that, once the Simulink portion was compiled, linked, and made into an executable file, the file works to your specifications. If you are going to embed this Simulink model into your own code, instead use the .c file that was created.

The ert_main.c file is the best file to examine. This file can act as your main file, calling the Simulink ERT code you have generated. You will see that ert_main.c file calls the generated ERT code through three main function calls:

- MODEL_INITIALIZE

- MODEL_STEP

- MODEL_TERMINATE

The ert_main.c file is well documented; follow this as an example.

Also review the ert template makefile for instructions on how to compile everything together, along with any other lib files that are required, to compile all of the ERT code with your code.

Note that the ert_main.c file and the template makefiles are located in the

$MATLAB\rtw\c\ert directory

(where $MATLAB = MATLAB root directory on your machine)
