MATLAB: Do I receive an error that says “this license file appears to have been generated for a different computer”

When I select my license file, I get the following error message:
 
This license file appears to have been generated for a different computer. Either:
– Go back and activate automatically using the Internet.
– Or, if you do not have a license file for this computer, select the option indicating you do not have a license file. We will help you with the next steps.
Why do I receive this error and how can I fix it?

This error indicates that the Host ID of your computer does not match the Host ID in your license file.
To resolve this issue, you will need to generate a new license file with the correct Host ID.
