MATLAB: Do I receive an activation module error when launching MATLAB

MATLAB

I installed and activated MATLAB R2011b, however, when I launch MATLAB I receive this error:
Activation Module Error:
Error finding com/mathworks/activationclient/ActivationApplication class.
An exception occurred while looking for class.”
How do I proceed from here?

This error can be resolved by renaming or resetting your MathWorks preference directory in the user application data folder. Typically, this preference directory is located in the following folder:
%appdata%/MathWorks/MATLAB/R20XX/
NOTE: Do not remove any folders that are labelled "R20XX_licenses"
Please rename the folder to "R20XXold" and then re-launch MATLAB. This will create a new MathWorks preferences directory in this location.
If you're still experience an issue, please recreate MATLAB's shortcut path by going to the directory below, right click, and click create shortcut (or alias for Mac)
For Windows:
C:\Program Files\MATLAB\RXXXX\bin\matlab.exe
For Mac OS X:
/Applications/MATLAB_RXXXX.app
