MATLAB: Do I receive a lot of license manager error messages when I start MATLAB

When I start MATLAB, I receive several dialog boxes with error messages stating:
FLEXnet Licensing checkout error: License server system does not support
this feature.
Feature: Simulink
FLEXnet Licensing error: -18, 147
These error messages repeat for many different features. MATLAB starts fine, but I have to close each of the dialog boxes in order to continue. How do I avoid closing these boxes on MATLAB startup?

These dialog boxes are caused by a debug feature of the network license manager. When the environment variable FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS is set, MATLAB is forced to try and checkout a license for every product that the MathWorks distributes. In order to workaround these errors, you can remove the environment variable and restart MATLAB. It will not display the error message on the next execution.
