MATLAB: Real-time Spectrum Analysis

I want to develop a Real-time Audio Spectrum Analyzer, input to which, needs to be given through a microphone. I know that Spectral Analysis can be done in MATLAB, but can this be done for live (real-time) input? How?

You can use Spectrum Analyzer to do this.

Look at the examples in the above page. The signal are fed into the analyzer in batch mode. You can just replace those signals with the one you get from the microphone.

You can set FrequencyResolutionMethod to 'Window length' to manually adjust the length of signal used to compute the spectrum, e.g.,

MATLAB: Real time values of an audio signal from microphone

Real-time sound work requires the DSP toolbox, preferably with ASIO drivers. This would require a sound card and that the microphone be plugged into that. The alternative is to use a data acquisition card (DAQ) with the Data Acquisition toolbox.

You have no hope of being able to work real-time with audiorecorder and winsound.
