What is the preferred method these days for reporting documentation errors & typos etc? This Answers section? Bug Report? Technical Service Request? Other?

For what you strongly suspect is a bug, you can go here: http://www.mathworks.com/support/bugreports/search_results to report it, otherwise I've heard you submit things to support@mathworks.com and they'll log it in the appropriate place in their records.
