MATLAB: Newbie question

I'm new to Matlab, and I've just finished a set of calculations which gave me a final answer. Now I want to alter one of my earlier variables, so that I can see how it affects my final answer. I've tried 'edit value' on the value of the variable in question within the workspace – that does allow me to change the variable to a different value, but none of the other variables get updated, and my final result is still the same. I know it's going to be something simple….

You may be used to Excel, where a change in the value of an input variable "cascades" throughout the spreadsheet.

In MATLAB, after changing the value of your input variable, you need to reissue your other assignments to get to a new final answer. Up-arrow will let you scroll through your command history, so you don't need to retype the calculations. If you get tired of even doing this, you'll want to capture your calculation into a file (a MATLAB script) that you can run again and again as a single MATLAB command.

pi is already defined; it is not a good idea to redefine it.

Remove your BG=5 line.

Immediately before you calculate Lvalues, add the line

BGs = [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10];  %the list of values you want to use
L_pB = zeros(1,length(BGs));   %more efficient to preallocate
for K = 1 : length(BGs)
  BG = BGs(K);

Then, change your assignment that has L_pB on the left hand side, to instead of L_pB(:,K) on the left hand side. And then add the lines

end
plot(BGs, L_pB, 's')

right after that.

I have, though, not gone through the code to be sure that you only calculate a single L_pB value per BG value. If instead multiple values are calculated each time, change the 1 in the "zeros" line to be the number of items that are calculated each time (e.g., 7)

I did not join the points together in the plot because it is not clear to me that the points could be considered ordered or continuous.

MATLAB: GUI Newbie

Assign the output of uicontrol() to a handle. Save the handle somewhere. Then in the routine that needs to check the state of the button, get() the 'Value' property of the button: 0 will indicate it is not pressed and 1 will indicate that it is pressed.
