MATLAB: Command “mex” in terminal I get “This is pdfTeX” instead of Matlab-mex-command

If I run mex in terminal I get:

This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.19 (TeX Live 2018) (preloaded format=mex)
 restricted \write18 enabled.

when I type which mex I get

/usr/local/texlive/2018/bin/x86_64-linux/mex

To solve this issue:

1) I renamed `/usr/local/texlive/2018/bin/x86_64-linux/mex` to something else

2) I added `export PATH=/opt/MATLAB/R2018b/bin:$PATH` to my `.bashrc`

The problem was solved by adding the directory of required *.so files to the path manually. In ~/.bashrc I added:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/home/bkhusain/Documents/MATLAB/nomad.3.7.3/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Also when calling mex I removed LDFLAGS:

mex -v -largeArrayDims nomadmex.cpp -I.  -I/home/bkhusain/nomad.3.7.3/src/ -lut -lnomad -L/home/bkhusain/nomad.3.7.3/lib/ -output /home/bkhusain/nomad.3.7.3/bin//nomad.mexa64

Still I do not understand why linker was looking for main() function. I will try to investigate this based on answer Jan Simon's answer

As you've discovered, your particular combination of Intel Fortran and Visual Studio is not supported in 14a ( Details ).

You are on the right track if you want to hack something together. None of this is documented or supported, I can offer a few hints:

Don't meddle with the files in your preferences folder ('prefdir'). Instead, put the XML file you are experimenting with in your current working folder ('pwd'). Give it a name like 'custom.xml'; you can instruct MEX to use this file with 'mex -f custom.xml other arguments'.
You are effectively going to want to update custom.xml file such that it preserves the Intel-specific settings, but swaps in the VS2013 settings. This is often, but not always, a largely mechanical process. The file matlabroot\bin\win64\mexopts\msvcpp2013.xml should give you a strong sense of the edits you'll want to make in custom.xml
