MATLAB: Mex and compilation with pgifortran

I have ported Fortran90 functions that I used to compile with mex (using gfortran as F90-compiler) to CUDA-Fortran code with the intention to compile it with mex, editing the engopts.sh to use pgifortran instead. However this causes problems of the kind "undefined reference to MAIN_" and "undefined reference to mexerrmsgtxt_'. When I Google, I find some mostly older posts about this problem but its not clear whether the issues are resolved. My question is if there exists a (publically available) engopts.sh sample which allows for pgi fortan90 compilation. I use Matlab R2015a, the intended fortran compiler being pgi/14.10 and the Linux distro being Scientific Linux 6 x86_64.

Hello,

The PGI Fortran compiler is currently not supported with MATLAB. I work at MathWorks and I will put forth the PGI Fortran compiler as a possible enhancement request to the appropriate product team to consider for future releases.

This is an error in the documentation for MATLAB 7.2 (R2006a).

The topic “Finding Associated Files” found in the “Importing and Exporting Data” chapter of the “External Interfaces” manual should read as follows.

"Shared Libraries on UNIX. The bin/$arch subdirectory, where $arch is your machine's architecture, contains the shared libraries for linking your programs. For example, on sol2, the subdirectory is bin/sol2:"

The $MATLAB/bin/engopts.sh options file correctly specifies this directory. For example, to build the Fortran MAT-function example programs, copy the following files to a working directory.

 $MATLAB/bin/engopts.sh
 $MATLAB/extern/examples/eng_mat/matdemo1.F
 $MATLAB/extern/examples/eng_mat/matdemo2.F

Compile and execute the demos from MATLAB.

mex -f engopts.sh matdemo1.F
mex -f engopts.sh matdemo2.F
!matdemo1
!matdemo2

MATLAB: How to create Fortran 90 MEX files

For MATLAB 6.5 (R13), we are shipping an options file called f90opts.sh for Fortran 90 source code on Unix. This options file is able to compile fixed format Fortran 90 source code. You can set up this options file by using the following code:

mex -setup

and selecting f90opts.sh.

Similarly, on the PC, there is a df65opts.bat file that can be selected. This file is the same as the df60opts.bat file, except that it now can use the fpp (fortran preprocessor). Note however that Fortran 90 is already supported in both Visual Fortran 6.0 and 6.5 for MATLAB R12.1. Therefore Fortran 90 is already supported on the PC. This file can be invoked as follows:

mex -f <matlab>\bin\win32\mexopts\df65opts.bat <yourfortranfile.F>

Notes:

1. The Fortran 90 compiler for Linux we looked at was Vast Fortran 90, which is essentially a translator from Fortran 90 to Fortran 77. Consequently, on Linux, we only have Fortran 77 support.

2. In the event that you prefer to use the free form source code rather than the fixed form, please remove the -fixed or -qfixed flag from the f90opts.sh options file for your architecture.
